The world of action sports photography can be quite tricky to photograph. They are usually ‘extreme like’ activities, so in order to capture them effectively you need to get quite ‘extreme like’ in order to find a fresh and captivating way to capture them.
Sunset silhouettes are one of my most favourite natural lighting type of images.
Unearthing a unique angle to extract the image you have in your head can mean you find yourself in places and positions that can be hazardous to yourself and/or your equipment.
Classic sequences are always captivating. Here Oliver performs a huge off-axis 540.
One of my favourite new sports, not only to actually participate in but also to capture, is cable-park wakeboarding. Wow, this sport has been such a great way to spend my summer here in Europe, with limited access to any kind of real ocean wave for surfing, wakeboarding at numerous cable parks has been truly epic. This exciting sport combines the movements and feelings of snowboarding with the warmth and convenience of summer by a fresh water lake, amazing.
Low angle shots really give a sense of being right in the moment.
As a photographer is doesn’t come without its restrictions. Obviously it’s a water sport so protecting your equipment is essential. Then there is trying to use external lighting sources. They either need to be ultra-powerful to reach your target or you need to somehow have them close to your subject, aka, out on the water. Both options are extreme and difficult.
So for me this summer, I have to be creative with my composition, with my available lighting, the sun, and some Photoshop magic to create some mesmerising images.
